ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DRESS CODE

Far Horizons Montessori School does have a dress code for kindergarten – 8th grade students. (Preschool students are not required to comply with this code.) Below are the requirements for proper dress during school hours for elementary school students:

Pants and shorts
• Solid khaki or navy color only
• No baggy pants or shorts
• No jean or denim material
Skirts, Skorts and Jumpers
• Solid khaki or navy color only
• Hem may not be more than 3 inches above the knee.
Shirts and blouses
• Any solid color
• Polo shirts with a collar
• No logos or graphics
Shoes
• Tennis shoes are the preferred footwear
• Sandals with a back strap are acceptable
• No high-heeled shoes
Jackets, Sweat shirts and Sweaters
• Any solid color
• Must be clearly labeled with child’s name
• No logos or graphics
Hair
• May not be colored, spiked, cut or worn in extreme styles
• Length of boys hair may not go past the collar

Dress code for special occasions:
Field Trips
• Uniforms are to be worn on all field trips unless otherwise instructed
Halloween
• Students are allowed to wear costumes for Halloween
• No weapons or gruesome costumes of any kind are permitted

Picture Day
• Students are not required to wear uniform dress on picture day
Christmas Program
• Girls should wear their best dress, no spaghetti straps or high-heels
• Boys should wear solid colored and collared button up shirts with dark colored pants
• No tee shirts or tennis shoes
8th Grade Graduation
• Graduation attire will be discussed with graduates before graduation

General dress code guidelines:
• Clothing should be the appropriate size for the child
• All clothing must be hemmed
• Shirts must be worn tucked in at all times
• No hats or headbands with extensions
• Body art is not allowed
• Jewelry is not allowed with the exception of stud type earrings for girls
• No extreme makeup

Inappropriate attire:
• Clothing with holes or that is frayed or faded
• Skirts, skorts or jumpers worn 3 inches above knee
• Low cut necklines
• Sheer or bare midriffs
• Halter, backless or t-strap tops
• Tank tops or spaghetti strap tops or dresses
• Low cut or low riding pants
• Baggy pants
• Undergarments that are exposed

Consequences for violating dress code:
• Parents may be contacted and asked to bring in appropriate clothing
• Students may be asked to stay in the office until appropriate clothing is brought to school
• Students may be sent home until they are ready to comply with the school dress code

The appropriate clothing may be purchased at Sears, JC Penney, Old Navy, Kohl’s or any major store. If you have any questions regarding the dress code please come into the office and speak with the administration.

PRESCHOOL DRESS CODE

Far Horizons Montessori School does not require a dress code for preschool students. However, when dressing your child for preschool please take into consideration the weather along with the difficulty some clothing can pose for young children. For a young child a few seconds can make a difference in preventing a bathroom accident.

Shoes
• Tennis shoes are the preferred footwear
• Sandals may be worn if they have a back strap

Clothing
• All clothing should be the appropriate size for the child
• Spaghetti strap dresses and tops must be worn with a shirt underneath
• Belts must be the proper size and may not wrap around the waist more than once
• Clothing should be easy to zip and unzip, button and unbutton, clasp and unclasp

Jewelry

• Jewelry is not allowed with the exception of stud type earrings for girls

Jackets, Sweat, Shirts and Sweaters
• Must be clearly labeled with child’s name

Inappropriate attire
• Dyed, spiked or extreme hair styles
• Hair length for boys past the collar
• Strapless shoes and high-heeled shoes
• Hats, wigs, extravagant hair adornments and headbands with extensions
• Items covering the eyes or anything that might impair vision
• Boys wearing rings of any sort
• Body art of any kind
